Swiss whey lemonade

Lemonade “Rivella” can rightfully be called the national Swiss drink. It was created by the Swiss entrepreneur Robert Barth (Robert Barth, 1922 – 2007) in 1952 with the support of the biologist Hans Süsli from Zurich, who at that time worked as an assistant at the ETH Dairy Institute. For Robert Barth, it was a somewhat unusual career, because he was a lawyer by training.

Rivella – Robert Barth came up with the name of his drink, starting from the Italian word “rivelazione” (discovery, revelation)

The manufacturer does not make a secret of the composition of the drink: water, whey (from 25% to 35% depending on the variety), sugar, carbon dioxide, lactic acid as an acidifier, caramelized sugar, and natural flavors. However, the secret remains a mixture of fruit and herb extracts, which creates the unique taste of this drink. This mixture has remained unchanged since 1952. At the same time, Rivella consciously refuses to use artificial preservatives and dyes in the production of its drink.
