«In 2019, together with colleagues in the State Duma, they initiated the abolition of palm oil benefits. Amendments to the Tax Code of the Russian Federation were adopted. After that, the VAT on palm oil became twice as high — 20%.
But the changes did not affect the palm oil fractions, as this was regulated by Government regulations. They remained with a reduced rate.
The deputies of the State Duma appealed to the Government of the Russian Federation. Thanks to the support of Prime Minister Mishustin Mikhail Vladimirovich, a decision was made today to cancel the preferential VAT rate for palm oil fractions, as well as to increase it to 20%.
The State Duma receives many appeals from citizens demanding to minimize the use of palm oil in food products. This issue is under control.
The decisions taken allow us to talk about the abolition of all benefits in relation to palm oil.
Today, the relevant committees of the State Duma are developing proposals to ban its use in a number of food products.»
