Ban on imported dietary supplements

The State Duma is considering a package of bills banning dietary supplements sold through international marketplaces in the Russian Federation. This is due to the lack of SGR (Certificate of State Registration) for such products – a document confirming the safety of products and certifying the compliance of the goods with uniform sanitary, epidemiological, and hygienic requirements, as well as the requirements of the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union.

But is this measure fair in relation to imported additives? Foreign practice of control in the production of dietary supplements suggests that these additives are more likely to be of high quality and safe than domestic counterparts.

Experts from various fields directly related to public health dealt with issues related to the sale of imported dietary supplements on the territory of the Russian Federation.
