From 2022, the list of medical nutrition products for disabled children will expand by eight positions. The decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
In total, there are 94 items in the updated list. It added therapeutic nutrition for children with phenylketonuria, cystic fibrosis, fatty acid metabolism disorders.
Medical nutrition products are necessary for children with orphan (rare) diseases. Basically, these are specialized liquid and dry mixtures. They are purchased at the expense of the federal budget, and then issued free of charge on the prescription of the attending physician. Their list is formed every year by a special commission of the Ministry of Health with the participation of the chief freelance specialist in medical genetics. Then the document is approved by the Government.
“All these are products necessary for young patients with health restrictions. And every child who needs it should receive them in a timely manner,” Mikhail Mishustin said at a government meeting on December 16, asking the heads of regions to closely monitor this issue.
