Multivitamins for athletes: answers to some questions

Material about vitamin and mineral complexes for athletes could be very brief:
– Who needs sports VMC? – For athletes.
– How to take them? – Under the supervision of a doctor.

But then there would be a lot of unrevealed. Recently, we talked about multivitamins with a nutritionist, and today Dmitry Trunenkov, a bobsledder, Honored Master of Sports of Russia, shared his experience with us.

– Dmitry, is it necessary for an athlete to take vitamin and mineral complexes with heavy loads?
– Vitamins are also needed by those who do not go in for sports. And for heavy loads, they are simply necessary!
We all constantly experience the stresses associated with modern life – plus this is influenced by the load on the body, the consumption of low-quality food (not everyone follows this) … Therefore, supplements in the form of sports supplements will only improve health and quality of life.

– Is the “gender” of dietary supplements important? Is it fundamentally, for example, for women athletes to take female IUDs?
– The choice of dietary supplements depends on the task pursued by the athlete. If we are not talking about professionals, the women’s supplement market is focused mainly on burning fat and maintaining the balance of vitamins, amino acids and other essential elements in the body. Based on this, female dietary supplements contain lower dosages of the components of the drugs – in addition, men and women are in different weight categories.
If we are talking about professional sports, the “gender” of dietary supplements is not so important. Girls use the same supplements as men, they just reduce their dosage – again for the reason I indicated above.

– Are there extremely high dosages of vitamins that should be avoided?
– The use of dietary supplements and vitamins should be approached with the utmost responsibility.
A huge number of people take them daily without negative consequences, and the inclusion of dietary supplements in the diet will certainly benefit your body. But it is worth remembering that an overdose of vitamins can cause various side effects – some of them can be fatal. Therefore, I advise you to strictly adhere to the recommended dosages.

– What is the main “backbone” of supplements for an athlete?
– Complexes of amino acids, BCAA, protein. These supplements aid muscle recovery after intense and strength training;
Creatine. Supplement that is formative for the muscles, and also increases strength, conserves energy, accelerates recovery;
Citrulline malate. Improves physical performance; especially necessary in cycles of intense loads;
IUD; chondroprotectors (glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM); omega-3; glutamine.
