Rising prices for baby food: two questions for an expert

News about the rise in prices for food for children periodically appears in information sources in various regions of Russia. On request “baby food” on the Internet, you can find a lot of messages about the rise in price of such products.
What is the reason for this phenomenon and can it be avoided? We are “decomposing” the situation into two main questions together with Yuri Zubarev, President of the Eurasian Council of the Specialized Food Industry.

– What could be the reason for the rise in prices for baby food?
– Due to the coronavirus, the demand for ingredient products and specialty foods has increased worldwide, which has led to an increase in the prices of goods in these segments. Domestic manufacturers provide themselves with such products by 10-15%, everything else is foreign ingredients. Therefore, the rise in prices for food for children is a natural process.

– Is it possible to solve this problem?
– It is possible to “protect” from this process by creating our own production of ingredient products. And it’s time for the state to think about it; I hope that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will receive a corresponding task from the government. Because in modern realities, specialized food products – for children, medical ones – are necessary, and it is very important to provide the population with them.
I believe that it is necessary to follow the Chinese economic model, in which the state is engaged in investing in the creation of domestic industries. After all, for a business to create expensive production and look for a sales market, while being able to purchase ingredient products from one foreign manufacturer is an uninteresting model.
